Day TWO...
Wednesday, January 21, 2004
Well, we're at day number two. A great night of sleep in a hotel, a chance to look at a map...and you guessed it all we know is the direction we are going.

The Sleep Inn of Port Clinton. There were more people at the gas station across the street than at this hotel...The direction that was chosen was north. This is one of the first times, if not the first time we set out slightly be fore the sun was up. Plus, it was the coldest. Easiest way to tell how cold it was...the Blazer's windshield washer fluid would not work if it were below 20. Although the easiest would probably be to have looked at the temperate gauge. Even though this trip has no superheros or huge crosses, it did have a lot of stuff on sticks.

A boat east of Toledo.

This barn must bring a tear to your eye. It is so breath taking.
Due to the size of Lake Erie, and the location of Port Clinton on the lake, to get north we had to head back to Toledo. That also meant going back through that massive work zone on Interstate 280.

Proof that I do some what respect the work same of fellow man kind.
Now to Michigan...State 4!!

This is the first time that we have had the opportunity to experience Michigan. Interstate 75 lead use straight to a dump of a town, where most of our fine American motoring carriages are made, and or thought of.

A water tower outside a Ford facility. As an intelligent human being...or human going, you have read, heard, or plagiarized stories in your lifetime, so let me guess your wondering where is the climax...the conflict in the life. Well here it is. In Downtown Detroit we hit...TRAFFIC!!!...What was neat is we got to see flares...oh and a cab after it went smashy smashy...

The victim cars on a tow truck blocking I-75.

A ambulance.

If the accident blocking lanes wasn't enough...these officers thought a nice place to sit was in the right lane on the ramp from NB I-75 to SB I-375.
With Detroit right across the water from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, why not head over there. Since we were in Downtown Detroit we took the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. The rates were cheaper when paying with United States currency.

This is EB in the D-W Tunnel.
Now to Canada...Country #2!!

Now to Province 1...Ontario!!

Looking EB D-W Tunnel on the Canada side.So far we have told you that American currency is worth more than America Junior's currency. We figured we would spend some it in Canada. But, the boarder guard didn't feel like letting us in. Nice first impression of this country. Stupid Canada. First stop, the welcome center. Here people were nicer, we were able to change out money, and get maps.

They do have phone booths in Canada. Don't see to many of these in the U.S.A.

Proof that the Blazer has been in multiple countries. The nicer, people in the Ontario welcome center informed use that the Windsor waterfront had some nice picture taking places.

A train engine on the waterfront.

A look at Downtown Detroit from Canada. The day has progressed and it was time to find some substance. Looking at one of our lovely free maps we took at ring road around Windsor.

A look at the Ambassador Bridge.

Proof that they do have fire trucks in Canada. In search of food we stumbled across the Future Shop. It was like a Best Buy is to use Americans. They took credit cards, and even the Canadian money that looked odd...

The front of the money (by front I mean what I say is the front).

The back.
It was hard to choose what to eat. The choice at this exit off the E.C. Row Expressway was a Krispy Kream, Taco Bell, and Mc Donald's. After seeing all that we were not too sure that we were in Canada. Luckily Mc Donald's informed us.

NOTE: The maple leaf on the arches. God Bless the people in Oak Brook, IL for helping us.The search seemed never ending. Then we say it. Fine Canadian Dinning!...

Although we didn't start '04 off with a Big Harv. The one planned stop for today was at Clear Channel Radio-Detroit. That wasn't till later in the afternoon. So it was more motoring around Canada. In doing so we ended up on one of the King's highways in Rural Essex County. It was interesting to be in a bi-lingual country.

I am glad I took 3 years of French. The sign says...well...um...
Well the day was getting late so we turned around and head back toward Windsor to go to the U.S.A.

Welcome to Windsor with a funeral procession.

Thats a better way to be greeted to a place. To get back to the U.S.A. we followed Dougal Ave. and the trailblazers for the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. Traffic was moderate till we got downtown.

It may be a good place to eat, but it sounds like a horrid medical condtion. The line for the tunnel was long. Long is an under-statement. It was many miles or kilometers long. The line just crawled. So that gave us more time to Experience America Junior...ok...Canada. That takes use to Food Basics! We spend roughly about 20 minutes in this store. Can you believe that had Carl Budding Lunch meat?

The sign near the street.

The store.
Now it was more time to sit in traffic. We did notice that the car that was in line in front of use had moved, on the street, from the back side of the store to the front side. So we high tailed it to the street and got in line, three trucks ahead of where we were before the shopping trip.

A royal parking meter???...
What is causing all the delay for the tunnel. Well a poorly timed traffic light and the Windsor Police.

The spoiler makes it cool.
The toll for the tunnel was similar to the other direction. Good old United States of America money is so much more valuable that stupid Canada money.

The Blazer at a Dutty Free Shop.Time to head back to the United States of America. But wait...we forgot one thing...what’s that...right...to be threatened with jail time and or a hefty fine, by a guy who is trapped in a box smaller than my rice burner.

I think I cool...I sit in a box and do nothing...Stupid Canada! With no signs posted...everyone ever born in the entire world is supposed to know that you can take pictures at an international border. So after we were threatened and then allowed to go...you guessed it...

I took a picture. Stupid Canada! WB D-W Tunnel.
Back to country 1...United States of America!!
Back to state 4...Michigan!!
Will we make it two for two? Nope a nice U.S. Customs guard greeted us back with warmth. He better, we pay his paycheck. He knew who was boss...yeah. Well the day was progressing on, so off to the new facilities for CCU-Detroit. A year earlier the consolidated five of the seven stations to an old A&W building in Farmington Hills. This is a suburb located in the northwestern part of the Detroit Metro. The other two are projected t be moved in by 2006.

Hope the snow scraper is not locked inside...

Like the old saying...all good things must come to a end. Time to head back to reality. So we made our way to Interstate 94 and headed across Southern Michigan.

Michigan has odd state trooper cars.

Any idea what the calls for this station is?...
