Day 1Experiencing America > Road Trip Year...2004 > A Night in the Sioux Empire > Day 1
Day ONE...
Sunday, April 11th, 2004
The point of the trip was just to get away. It started late afternoon on a sunny Easter Sunday. We started from Manulis Township in North Central Illinois, and headed we across Illinois. There was a taste for a sub-type sandwich. A hour and half into the trip we stopped at Geneseo at one of the few free-standing Subway Sandwich Shops. It was closed...it's a holiday. So we kept going down I-80 to the Quad-Cities where we took Interstate 74 into Iowa.
Now to Iowa...State #2!!

Once in Iowa we rejoined with I-80 and continued west. On this journery we found what claimed to be the largest truck stop. It had a Blimpies.

A billboard on EB I-80.

The truck-stop.
After walking through the multi-level truck stop which is one of the biggest we have been in, we found the Blimpies. It was in one of the many buildings on this truck stop compound. The Blimpies...was also closed. Across the street was a Pilot Travel Center with a Arby's. We were so hungry we could eat at Arby's.

A junk yard...or neat fort near Homstead on U.S. Rt. 6.
Our hotel for the night was near Colfax, Iowa. This was just east of Metro-Des Monies. It had great amenities including high-speed Internet access and indoor pool.
Day TWO...
