Day ONE...
Friday, June 18, 2010

The day started off in Fairview Heights, Illinois near the end of the morning rush hour. At the hotel the great folks at KTVI-TV, FOX 2, St. Louis infomed us of a wonderful day 8 a.m. 98 degrees and humidity of 92%... Not only is it a hot day, it is a sticky day... So we head out to look for a few post offices north of the wonderful city of East St. Louis, Illinois that have been hiding from us. Which ones...National Stock Yards, and Lovejoy. Why are they hard to find. They are not on the map, or GPS. Plus, Lovejoy isn't even a town! The Lovejoy post office is for the town of Brooklyn. Great old United States Postal Service, you can name a post office what ever you want.

Can you find the post office? In one of the corners behind the tree is the National Stock Yard Post Office. I bet they get alot of business.

Last night it was noted on Interstate 255/U.S. 50 that Missouri has new welcome signs! So we head up to Interstate 270 to attempt to get a clear picture.

Back to State 2!!...Missouri...

Back to State 1!!...Illinois...

After a turn around at the first exit in Missouri we head back to Illinois and go into the Granite City, Madison area. In September, 2009, on an Amtrak ride from Jefferson City, Missouri to Dwight, Illinois I noticed in Grantie City an old yard of old passanger rail cars from various name plates. So we headed out to find said yard and snap a few pics through the fence. Found the yard, got the pics. Next, on a day of vacation we head to where else...work... At the time of the trip the Sears at St. Ann, Missouri was closing, so we needed to see what from there could head to the store on Bourbonnais. To get there we head to the famed Poplar Street Bridge (I-55/64/70; U.S. 40). Shocker to find stopped traffic on a Friday morning here...not really...

Did I mention it was hot today?

Looking at downtown from the bridge.

Back to State 2!!...Missouri...

Once across the river it was out to St. Ann along I-64/U.S. 40 to U.S. 67. An hour at the store then back to the hotel to prep for the reason of the trip...a Cardinals game!

Back to State 1!!...Illinois...

Once set for the game we head to the Swansea MetroLink station to board a train to Busch Stadium....Baseball Heaven.

Back to State 2!!...Missouri...

At Busch the night ended in a Cardinal victory and a train ride back home.

Looking at the skyline before the game.

Looking at the field.

Back to State 1!!...Illinois...
And the end of the night...
