Day THREE..
Friday, August 3rd, 2018

Yet another sun shiny day in Middle America. The day started near Kentucky Lake in the Benton Area. As we made our way north to see the main stop for the day, we headed through Paducah, and took a look at the Ohio River at Paducah.

Back to State #1!!....Illinois...

Once back in the Land of Lincoln it was time to check out some attractions that had been seen on this site over the past few years. When one thinks of Metropolis there is one person that comes to mind. That person is...

That is correct Big John!!!.

While Big John might not have been the guess; he has been repainted an is still standing tall with his groceries. In the middle of Metropolis is the shirne and mecca of Superman. While also in the middle of Metropolis there are also boutique shops and murals. It makes for a quality tourist stop.

After leaving Metropolis is was time to take a long way back north.

Back to State #3!!!...Kentucky...

As we headed back through Paducah, Interstate 24 was the goal. This was to take us back around Kentucky Lake and head from the Jackson Purchase part of Western Kentucky to the Transylvania Purchase of Western Kentucky. This journey had voyages on and off the interstate highway system. In going on and off it allowed time to see odd attractions from the area.

As the trip went along we finally headed north to make our way towards the Ohio River crossing at Henderson. This gave us the ability to check off another requirement of a road trip. That would be a Kentucky Fried Chicken that still has the bucket on the sign. Not only once did we do it, but twice. Once as Madisonville, Kentucky, and at Henderson, Kentucky. Henderson also allowed a chance to see a happy wolf.

Now to State #5!!...Indiana...

In Evansville, as we made a quick detour into the downtown area, there was a sign for an LST Memorial. While looking for a monument we came across an actual LST ship. Thus, it was tour time. While this LSWT was made in the Philadelphia Area, it is one of the last remaining operating LST. Evansville, Indiana was the largest producer of these ships. This LST was used by the Greek Navy for it's service.

Some items found from when the Greek Navy had the ship.

With the tour complete it was time to head north. For the other websites we took a trip up the new sections of Interstate 69, north of Evansville. Once to Washington, we headed back to U.S. 41.

A KFC with a bucket in Washington, IN.

Once back to U.S. 41, we headed north and were chasing daylight. That did not stop some side trips into the towns that U.S. 41 no longer goes through. It is these side trips that you find interesting sights.

It is not a road trip without something on a stick. Here it is a helicopter in Sullivan, IN.

What is left of Linton Township High School.
