Day TWO...
Wednesday, June 26th, 2019
The overall trip was a quick overnight. Down to the "Lou" for a Cards game and back to homebase in the Chicagoland area. In doing this, there are still sights that can be seen. For the journey home, we went up the Missouri side of the Mississippi River. Up to see if we can have lunch with the Potters, or hear a tall tale from Mark Twain. Along the way there were interesting sights with in the rolling hills of Northeastern Missouri.
Foreshadowing??...

Odd giant balloons, making it look like a video game is attacking outside Hannibal.
The adventure for the day was exploring the under world. Going into century old caves, seeing what nature has opened up with years of underground rivers and lakes. Outside Hannibal, Missouri are two caves on a complex known as the Mark Twain Caves.

A Welcome sing for the Caves park.
The two caves both offered their own unique experience in the natural history of Northeastern Missouri, and of local folk tales. The first cave we toured was known as Cameron Cave. This cave was done with a flashlight tour. There were no lights inside. It gave an extremely unique experience to cave exploring.

Once this tour was finished then we went and explored the other cave. This one shared the name with the park. In this cave this is where many of the stories within the Mark Twain tales were said to take place.

After the caves we made a brief stop at Lover's Leap park that is run and maintained by the City of Hannibal. This park gave a great view north up the Mississippi River and over the City of Hannibal.

Back to State #1...Illinois!!!

The journey home took us across Western and Central Illinois. The first place along the way was Quincy, Illinois.

A mural in Downtown Quincy, IL.

Lunch for the day was at an original Maid Rite.
As the day wore on the travel became long. Not much to see in this part of the State of Illinois. It was a journey across through Macomb, then Peoria, and the Normal part of the Bloomington-Normal Metro Area.
With this journey complete, the next one of 2019 was going to be a grand one.
