Day THREE...
Monday, September 5th, 2022
Ahhh...Labor Day...a national holiday, a day to relax, a day to sleep in...nope. This day it is up at 4:30 in the morning to drive a mile across Mackinaw City, to get a parking spot to get in line to walk. Every Labor Day, since the opening of the Mackinaw Bridge, locals and folks from far and wide flock to St. Ignace, and Mackinaw City to walk the Mackinac Bridge. It is the only time that traffic on Interstate 75 is shut down, and pedestrians are allowed on the bridge to walk half way, the full way, or both ways (or double cross as it be) on the Mackinac Bridge. Traffic on I-75 is closed from 6 a.m. to Noon every Labor Day for this event. It is uplifting, postive, and a great lifetime exprience.

Looking north as we are walking on the Mackinac Bridge.
After the bridge walk was done, it was time to make the long trek home. In an attempt to avoid traffic in those returning from their long holiday weekend trips we went south through the Lower Penninsula of Michigan. This was also since we finished walking the bridge at 9:30 a.m., and the bridge was still closed to traffic. So the through was to stay more inland and use U.S. 127 to go through Lower Michigan, vs. using U.S. 31 and following the coast. Following U.S. 127 this took us past St. Louis...Michigan. St. Louis is known to be the geographic center point for the Lower Pennisula of Michigan. So of course we had to stop.

Now was the long journey...to the Land of Lincoln...further down U.S. 127...
Now to State #4...Ohio!!!

The Ohio state Welcome sign on SB U.S. 127.
Ohio was a quick pass through in retrospect to the rest of the trip. It was still mostly overcast, and dinner was a disapointment for a Monday evening at a service plaza on the Ohio Turnpike.
Now to State #5...Indiana!!!

The Indiana Welcome Sign on WB I-80/90.
Indiana was a sling-shot across the Indiana Toll Road (I-80/90) to Illinois.
Back to State #1!!!...Illinois...
Now back in the Land of Lincoln, another trip comes to an end...
