In 1993 the light rail commuter rail system opened in the St. Louis Metro Area. The intial line ran from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport to 5th & Missouri, in East St. Louis, IL. In 2001, the line extened further east in to Illinois to serve the "Metro East" portion of the St. Louis Metro Area. Then in 2003, it was extened further east to the Shiloh-Scott station, near Scott Air Force Base, IL. In 2006 a spur was built off of the main-line in Missouri running from the Forest Park station to Shrewsbury.
