Penn Central

The Penn Central was officially known as the Penn Central Transportation Company. This was the result of the 1968 merge of the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central. One year later the New York, New Haven, & Hartford Railroad merged into the Penn Central. By 1970, Penn Central had filed for bankruptcy. By 1974 the U.S. Government had taken control of the Penn Central system along with other east coast railroads and created Conrail.
