Southern
The Southern Railroad is one of the first railroads in the United States. One of it's predecers, South Carolina Canal & Rail Road, dates back to 1827. Through a financial re-structuring, the Southern Railroad was created in 1894. It was the first railroad to operate at night. In 1982, it merged with the Norfolk & Western Railroad to create the Norfolk Southern Railroad.
