The Southern Pacific rail line dated back to 1865. It started as a land holding company for the Central Pacific Railroad. The lines ran mostly along the south from New Orleans, LA to Los Angeles, CA, and north to Portland, OR. One line also ran from Chicago, IL to El Paso, TX, via Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. In 1996 is was aquired by the Union Pacific Railroad.
