The Village of Alvin is located on Vermilion 3, north of Illinois 119, and east of the CSX railroad. In 1875 the Havana, Rantoul, and Eastern railroad crossed the Chicago, Eastern, and Illinois railroad, and Alvin was formed. A tornado struck the town in 1942 killing six people.
