The City of Belleville is the county seat of Belleville. George Blair settled in what is not Belleville in 1814. He donated a acre of land for the towns square and another 25 acres for the county seat to be moved from Cahokia to Belleville. It finaly was finaly incorporated in 1819 and became a city in 1850. While in Belleville many people visit Eckert's Orchard for the country store and you pick orchards. Also, Belleville is home to the Our Lady of the Snows, National Shrine. In Belleville, there are three Metrolink light rail stops. Belleville has two airports (1 government, 1 public), Scott Air Force Base and Mid-America. It is served by Illinois 13, Illinois 15, Illinois 157, Illinois 158, Illinois 159, Illinois 161, Illinois 177, Canadian National Railroad, and the Norfolk Southern Railroad.
