Blue Island gets it's name from times back at the end of the ice age. This at one time was the largest settlement in Southern Cook County. Today it is a hub for Metra. It has several stops along Metra's Rock Island Line. The Vermont Street station is one of the oldest stations on the Metra network. Metra's Electric Line has a spur into Blue Island.
