The City of Champaign is locates just under 150 miles from Chicago and Indianapolis. In 1855 the town of Champaign was created when the Illinois Central railroad laid tracks two miles west of town. It was originally called West Urbana. Champaign has portions of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus in the city limits.
