This is located just south of Interstate 55, Historical U.S. Rt. 66, Logan County 10, Logan County 11, and the Union Pacific Railroad. Elkhart dates back to 1819 when John Latham settled at Elkhart Grove. His house became a stage stop on a route between Springfield and Bloomington. In 1853 the Alton & Sangamon Railroad (now Union Pacific) came through town. The town was incoporated in 1885.
