The Village of Godfrey is located in Northwestern Madison County. It is on the northside of the Alton area. This was settled by Captian Benjamin Godfrey in 1832. In 1838, Monticello Female Seminary, was established. The last class to graduate was in 1971. It became Lewis and Clark College.
