The Village of Homer can trace it's roots back to a small settlement called "Union" in 1829. Union was located north of Homer on a path between Danville and Champaign. A mill and store was built at present day Homer in 1834. Homer was formed in 1837. The post office moved from Union to Homer in 1841.
