Info on Homewood:

The Village of Homewood sits along the Canadian National (former Illinois Central) & Metra-Eletric rail lines in Southern Cook County. In 1853 the Illinois Central created a station calling it Thronton Station. This lead to confusion with mail service, and a post office was created for Homewood. By the 1870's people were coming from Chicago down for the golf courses, and maintaing summer residents. Some stayed in permenant residents. By the 1920's the Illinois Central railroad and famed Dixie Highway was turning this town from a farming town to a busy suburb. Besides with passenger rail service from Metra today Amtrak also stops in town today.
