The Lovejoy Post Office serves the Village of Brooklyn, Illinois. It is the oldest town in the United States incorporated by African Americans. The towns mayor had the towns post office dedicated as "Lovejoy" vs. "Brooklyn" after abolitionist Elijah P. Lovejoy. Brooklyn was incorporated in July of 1873.
