The Village of Marissa is located Illinois 4, Illinois 13, and the Canadian National Railroad (former Illinois Central). Marissa is home to the Marissa Jr./Sr. High School. The village of Marissa hosts the annual Coal Festivel. This celebrates the towns heritage as a coal mining community. The town name wasa given when the first post office was placed in service in 1846. It's name comes from a biblical town in a book called "Antiquities of the Jews". Marissa became a village in 1867.
