The Village of Oglesby is located on the southern bluff of the Illinois River in West-Central La Salle County. It sits along Interstate 39, U.S. 51, Illinois 71, and Illinois 351. Oglesby was orginally called Portland. This is billed as teh scenic route to the area state parks, via the main highway through Downtown Oglesby. Illinois Valley Community College is located on the western side of town.
