Waukegan is one of the oldest communities in Illinois. This was orginally known as Little Fort. It is the county seat for Lake County. In March, 1849 the name was changed from Little Fort to Waukegan. People were attrached to settle in Waukegan for it's ports to ship grain to Chicago. The Illinois Parallel Railroads helped bring manufacturing to town. This is now owned by the Union Pacific and used for Metra rail lines running from Kenosha to Chicago daily.
