Info on Lake Station:

The Village of Lake Station dates back to 1852 when it was mapped out as a stop on the Michigan Central Railroad. This has always been a bedroom community. The Pullman Railroad Company attempted to locate here, but ended up on the southside of Chicago. In 1908, the name was changed to East Gary, to try and bring some of the people from U.S. Steel to town. The name was changed back to Lake Station in 1977.
