The Village of Whiting is located in Northern Lake County. It sits on the southern shores of Lake Michigan. The village was incorporated in 1869. It is home to the largest oil refinery in the midwest, and the 4th lartgest in the country. The refinery is run by BP, former Amoco, and started by Standard Oil of Indiana.
