It sits along the St. Joseph River. A French fort, French Fort St. Joseph was built in 1691. The British took it in 1761. Native Americans gained control in 1763. British forces retook the fort and used it for trading. During the American Revoltion, Spanish forces briefly held the fort. This many different nations has given the town a nickname of "City of Four Flags". Niles is served by two Amtrak trains. |
