Info on Hampton:

The City of Hampton is one of the independant cities of Virginia. It is home to Fort Monroe, Langley Air Force Base, and NASA Langley Research Center. The first settlement was set up in May, 1607. During the American Revolutionary War, and the Civil War the town was burned. Until 1908, Hampton was part of Elizabeth City County. In 1952, voters approved Elizabeth City County, Hampton, and the City of Phoebus to merge and all become the independant city of Hampton.
