Interstate 565

Interstate 565 runs east-west in Northern Alabama. This connects Huntsville to Interstate 65. The whole route of this is multi-plexed with ALT. U.S. Rt. 72. This route is also part of the Appalachian Development Corridor V.

The August 15th, 2004 edtion of the Huntsville Times is reporting that the Alabama Department of Transportation is wanting to extend I-565 to just east of Sheilds Road. This would created interchanges at Moore Mill Road and Shields Road. The cost is projected at $21.5 million. Work could begin by 2007.

Plans to extend I-565 west 2.5 miles to the Tennessee River were places in a bill by U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville). It would extend from I-65 to U.S. Rt. 31 at the Tennessee River. Most likely it would run alon Alabama State Route 20. As of now there is no time-line for the project.*
