Interstate 180

Interstate 180 is the shortest branch of Interstate 80 in Illinois. Running from I-80, near Princeton, to Hennepin. I-180 was orginally built for a steel mill in Hennepin, but that has since been closed. Over the years I-180 was left poorly maintained. In recent years, the Illinois Department of Transportation resurfaced it and made it a nice dirve through Bureau & Putnam Counties.

Interesting about this highway, is that none of the highways' six exits have exit numbers. Also, near Hennepin, I-180 turns from north-south to east-west. At this location there is a stack interchange with a short one mile spur that feeds directly into Illinois State Route 29. This is suspected to be a connection for a Peoria-to-Chicago freeway. One would assume that Illinois State Route 6 would connect to this spur.
