Dixie Highway, Illinois
The Dixie Highway ran north-south through Northeastern and East-Central Illinois. This was part of a bigger highway system connecting the Mid-West to the South. Illinois' portion was on the "West-Leg" of the highway. When the counrties U.S. Highway system was placed in 1926, the Dixie Highway was broken up. Portions were placed on the new highway system, others turned over to the state.
Dixie Highway in Illinois Today...
This started in Chicago, at Michigan and Washington. Then found it's way to Illinois State Route 1.
It followed Illinois State Route 1 from Chicago to Danville. At Danville, it joined U.S. Federal Route 136, and headed east to the Illinois/Indiana State Line.
