The John F. Kennedy Expressway runs east-west in the Chicago Area. It starts at the Jane Byrne Interchange, former Circle Interchange, in Downtown Chicago and runs to O'Hare International Airport. The CTA Blue Line runs between the inbound and outbound lanes of the expressway.
This expressway opened in 1960. The orignial name was the Northwest Expressway. It was renamed to honor the late president in 1963.
In Downtown Chicago the expressway was designed with many exits 500 feet apart. In recent years the IDOT has closed a few of the exits to make this strech of highway safer. The Kennedy Expressway passes through the following towns in Illinois. Chicago
