U.S. Federal Route 35 runs north-south through Central La Porte County. This highway runs from near Michigan City to Starke County, via La Porte and Kingsford Heights.
Prior to 2009, U.S. Rt. 35 had it's northern end point at U.S. Rt. 12 in Michigan City. Since then, INDOT entered into an agreement with the City of Michigan City to assume control of the highway and U.S. Rt. 35 has it's northern end point moved back to the junction with U.S. Rt. 20, east of I-94.
