Interstate 72

Interstate 72 is a short east-west highway in Northeastern Missouri. It runs from the Illinois/Missouri State Line to U.S. Rt. 61. The FHWA Route Log states I-72 at 2.04 miles long in the State of Missouri. Future plans have I-72 being extened to Interstate 35 on the northwest portion of the state. In July, 2004 work on upgrading U.S. Rt. 36 in Marion county was under way. Pictures are below.

When I-72 was extended inton Missouri, the old Mark Twain Bridge was replaced with a new structure that is tow interstate standards. This is one of the few places that bike traffic is alowed on a interstates. With the old bridge a bike trail it was aproved that the trail could use the new bridge (being the old one was later taken down). Bike traffic can use the shoulder of I-72 from Missouri State Route 79 and Illinois State Route 106.

In Missouri, I-72 is multi-plexed.
