Day ONE...

Like most trips we start in Northern Illinois, or as I have posted once on Facebook "NO IL"... We headed our of Southern Will County along Interstate 55. A brief stop along the way at a BP in Lincoln. By the way this is one of the few places you can get a Bloomington-Normal Pantagraph, Decatur Herald-Review, Peoria Journal-Star, and a Springfield State Journal Register. South of Springfield, we ventured along Illinois 104 toward Taylorville to gather more post offices for our sister site "The Mail Box".

I wonder if this is the big tourist draw to the area...

Looks like Walgreen's franchised at one time...did not know that...

After Taylorville, and the Greater Christian County, it was time to head toward Litchfield for lunch. Where else for lunch than Jack in the Box. Jack in the Box, exit 52 on I-55, the closest one to Southern Will County, Illinois.

The Licthfield Jack in the Box.

After a quick run in , strech, and back out with food we headed out in the back roads of Montgomery County, one to find a rail junction of the BNSF and Norfolk Southern outside of town. Plus more, extremely rural post offices. The journey to get as many of the Illinois post offices from the St. Louis sectional service facility takes us along the Illinois 127 corridor from Nashville to Pinckneyville. Along the was stops include a Hardee's for a milk shake and a Moto Mart for motor fuel and a St. Louis Post Dispatch. At Pinckneyville, we head west to the Mississippi River at Chester.

Looking south at the Chester Bridge over the Mississippi River.

From Chester we headed north along Illinois 3 to Ruma where we dipped to drive into the flood plain of Monroe County. Very interesting to have the hot 90 degree heat from the air temp. coming in on the driver side and the cool 60 degree air coming out of the old limestone mines in the bluffs. Once to the Columbia area we jumped over into Missouri to head to Downtown St. Louis.

State 2!!...Missouri...

Looking at the arch about 8:30 p.m.

Back to State 1!!...Illinois...

This brings and end to the journey today at a hotel in Fairview Heights...
