Day THREE...
Monday, August 6th, 2012

The quest for the third day was to arrive in the Boston Metro Area. Our plans was to attend a game at Fenway Park. This would be our first trip to Fenway, and a trip on the 100th Year of the field. Like every trip, why take the shortest route? We head east out of Albany and into Southern Vermont.

Now to State 6!!...Vermont...

We new have added Vermont to states we have entered. This was a journey of breath taking views of the mountains. To head across the state we took Vermont Route 9. It took us through the Green Mountain National Forest. We stopped for a look of the 100 mile view at Hogback Mountain. Here we saw valleys, trees, bought Maple syrup, which I discovered two months later that the bottle is shaped like the State of Vermont.

Now to State 7!!...Massachusetts...

The Massachusetts Welcome Sign on SB I-91, at the Vermont/Massachusetts State Line.

By late morning we entered Massachusetts and had lunch at a Friendlys in Greenfield, Massachusetts. When we reached Springfield, we joined the Massachusetts Turnpike to head east. Our GPS took us to I-290, and up past Worcester. Our hotel for the next two nights, was at the Comfort Suites, in Haverhill, MA.

Looking west at Worcester from NB I-290.

The night time activity was a game at Fenway with the Texas Rangers in town to see the Boston Red Sox. Boston turns our to be an interesting city for driving, at rush hour, for the first time. A few reasons why...traffic, there is alot of it. Interstate 93 is underground in Downtown Boston. To go from our hotel to Fenway, our GPS takes us down I-93. Plus, the most important part of all...GPS units don't work when your highway is underground! What happens is you guess where your going and you end up at Logan Airport.

SB I-93 crossing the Charles River. Just before it goes underground.

So with the unexpected trip to the airport, some quick map reading, and a bit of sitting in traffic, along the wonderful streets of Boston, we arrive in the Kenmore area of Boston. That is where Fenway is. Now an evening at the most beloved ballpark. How is this going to compare to baseball heaven back in St. Louis. Alot of history has taken place in Fenway, it is the oldest operating ball park, and is in far better shape that Wrigley Field, in Chicago.

A Fenway Frank. The bun was a big piece of Wonder Bread. Not the best ballpark hot dog I have had. One of the most expensive.
