Day SEVEN...
Sunday, July 21st, 2019

This was a day of history and of travel. It was another hot day in Southern Pennsylvania. The main event for the day was a step to the past and learn about the Battle of Gettysburg. Before leaving Harrisburg, we went to find the state house for Pennsylvania; then it was on to Gettysburg.

The Pennsylvania State House.

Once in the Greater Gettysburg Area we went past a farm that was owned by a family friends family during the battle. Then on to the visitors center that the national park service has for the Gettysburg Area. At the visitors center, the youth of our group got to enroll in the Union Army and be trained on how fighting was during the Battle of Gettysburg.

To get a full expereince of the days of the battle and what needs to be seen and known about the area; we decided to take a bus tour around Gettysburg. This tour gave us a guided oral history of the events that took place, and took the group all over the Gettysburg Area.

After this few hour bus tour it was time to head back west. The goal for the night is Pittsburgh. To get there it was another round of over the mountains and through the woods.

Back to State #8...Maryland!!...

The Maryland Welcome Sign on SB U.S. 15.

Our time in Maryland was brief. It was just long enough to get to Maryland 140, which would take us back to Pennsylvania. Then on to Pittsburgh. At the Pennsylvania/Maryland State Line there was a marker for the Mason-Dixon Line.

As we went through the mountains to head west, this route took us through small to mid-size towns. This gave us various sights along the way.

Once we reached Breezewood, it was onto the Pennsylvania Turnpike and straight to Pittsburgh. Once in the Pittsburgh area we were greeted with a being able to see a fist fight break out in the middle of Interstate 376. With a few hours left in the day we went up to Mount Washington for a great view of Downtown Pittsburgh, and where the three rivers come together. Then it was down to Fort Pitt State Park in Downtown Pittsburgh. Here we walked out to the actual point where the three rivers meet. Then on to the hotel for the last night out.
