Day FIVE...
Thursday, April 17th, 2025
At the dawn of light we were off. The plan for the day was to head from Newark, Delaware into Washington D.C., down into Virginia, then finish in Hagerstown, Maryland. Before leaving the Newark Area, we headed up to the point where Delaware and Pennsylvania meet-up. Outside of Newark there are two markers. One is where the Mason-Dixon Line goes from east-west to north-south. It marks where Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania meet up. We decided not to take the hike to the marker. The other marker is the point where the arc at the top of the State of Delaware begins. At this point we bounced between the three states many many times to acknowledge.

The Delaware Arc Marker, north of Newark.
After visiting this marker we headed sotuhwest towards the nations capital, via Interstate 95.
Now to State #10...Maryland!!
In Maryland it was a travel down I-95 to Baltimore and a circle around the city. Then on to the nations capital.
Now to District #1...Washington D.C.!!

A welcome sign on SB ALT U.S. Rt. 1 at the Maryland/DC Line.
Inside the district there were some sights to gather for content for the our other websites. This also gave some time to drive past some of the nations monuments.

The Washington Monument.

The U.S. Capital Building.
Now to State #11...Virginia!!

A welcome sign on SB I-395/U.S. 1.
Now through Virginia the path was to head down the the capitol of the commonweath. At one time this was also the capitol of the Confederate or Rebel nation during the American Civil War. Along the way through Virginia, I-95 was busy as usual. This delayed our time getting south into Virginia. With this there was not much time to explore. Along the way we jumped off to local roads to avoid the heavier parts of the traffic along I-95.

Now it was time to head towards Hagerstown, Maryland. So from Richmond, it was time to head west across Virginia and then north along the mountains. The views were nice to look as we drove across the state. Near New Market there was a unique watertower.

Looking out along I-64, near Afton, VA.

Back to State #6...West Virginia!!

A welcome sign on NB I-81.
The stretch through West Virginia was short; around 20 miles. By this time it was dark. There was not much time spent in West Virginia.
Back to State #10...Maryland!!
Now in Maryland it was time to pull in and stop for the night. The next day was to head west back to Illinois.
