South of the Elgin, Joliet, & Eastern rail yard on Joliet's eastside is the junction with the EJ&E and Metra. The Metra tracks were the former Rock Island Railroad. Today they carry Metra's Rock Island Service trains, along with frieght from CSX and Iowa Interstate, via track rights. U.S. 30 crosses the EJ&E via an overpass north of the junction.
