Norfolk Southern-Amtrak-CSX
Chesterton, IN

In Chesterton is Porter Junction. This is under Norfolk Southern control and known as CP482. Porter Junction was once served by the New York Central, former Conrail, Chicago line; which runs east-west through the junction. This is now under the control of the Norfolk Southern. The Michigan Central ran in a southwest to northeast across the junction. The connection between the line was removed, and the line south of the junction fell into the New York Central, former Conrail, and is now the CSX-Porter Branch. The former Michigan Central line to the north of the Norfolk Southern is now owned and used by Amtrak. Also entering the Norfolk Southern line at Porter Junction is the CSX line to Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is former Pere Marquette, former Chesapeake & Ohio rail lines. Today it is owned by the CSX.
