The City of Columbia is located in Northwestern Monroe County. It is located southwest of the Jefferson Barracks Bridge (J.B. Bridge). Columbia was plotted out in 1820, above the Mississippi River. In 1859 Columbia was incorporated. The railroad came to town in 1869. Columbia became a city in 1927. Today, Columbia is served by Interstate 255, U.S. 50, Illinois 3, and Illinois 158.
