The Village of Mahomet is located west of the Champaign-Urbana Metro Area. It sit at the junction of Interstate 74, U.S. 150, and Illinois 47. This town was settled in 1832 along the banks of the Sangamon River, and named Middletown. It was named Middletown because it was half way between Bloomington and Danville. In 1871 it was named Mahomet. Mahomet is served by the Mahomet-Seymor School District. Lake In the Woods Park north of Mahomet. This is a 900 acre on the Sangamon River. The Early America Museum is in the park.
