Info on Paxton: The City of Paxton is the county seat of Ford County. It is located on Interstate 57, U.S. 45, Illinois 9, and the Canadian National Railroad. One unique feature to Paxton is the antique loocing downtown buildings, and bridges over the Canadian National Railroad. Paxton was originally named Prairie City in the late 1840's. The Illinois Central Railroad named the town Prospect City in 1855. In 1859 the city was finally names Paxton. Augustana College was located in Paxton from 1863-1875.
