The City of Peoria is located in one of the largest towns in Central Illinois. This is the largest cities on the Illinois River. Peoria is home to the headquarters for Caterpillar Tractor. It sits on the site of Fort Clark. Fort Clark dates bat to 1813. When Peoria County was formed in 1825, Fort Clark was renamed, Peoria. This is the county seat for Peoria County. It sits on Interstate 74, and is bypassed by the only spur off of Interstate 74, Interstate 474. Peoria is home to the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, the 10th oldest in the United States. The Bergner's department store started in 1889 in Peoria.
