The Village of Mexico is located along U.S. 54, Missouri 15, Missouri 22, Missouri Secdondary D, the Kansas City Southern Railroad, and Norfolk Southern Railroad. It is home to aprox. 11,320 residents (2000 census). This is the county seat for Audrain County. Mexico was originaly called New Mexico when it was laid out in 1836. It was incorporated in 1855, as Mexico. THe first railroads were the Wabash Railroad, and the Alton Railroad.
