The City of Saint Charles is the county seat of Saint Charles County. Interstate 70 cust through the middle of town. This is the thrid oldest city west of the Mississippi River, dating back to 1765. It was the Missouri state capital from 1821 to 1826. Saint Charles does lay claim along with Kansas and Pennsylvania to the first interstate highway.
