Effingham County
Some sections of the National Road run along side U.S. 40 in Effingham County. U.S. 40 covers many otehr sections. In Effingham the National Road does seperate from U.S. 40 and goes into Downtown Effingham.

Fayette County
Like other sections of the National Road, most of it follows U.S. 40. As it passes through St. Elmo, there is a small display regaurding the areas oil drilling history. At Vandalia, the National Road passes the second Illinois State Capitol Building, several murals, and an interesting downtown. In Vandalia, there is a spur to an old cemetery.
