The 2002 Kentucky State Map shows portions of this parkway being part of two future interstate corridors. It is part of the I-66 corridor from William H. Natcher Parkway to Interstate 24. The I-69 corridor joins in from the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway to I-24.
The 2002 Kentucky State Road Map shows that plans are in the works for the WKY Parkway to become I-69. The map labels it as "Corridor I-69". In 2008, signs started to be posted for I-69 along the JMC Parkway. As of 2018, the parkway was listed with the "Formerly" on mainline trailblazers. A NB guide marker for I-69 as the name transitions from the Western Kentucky Parkway.
