Mississippi Avenue, Old Chicago Road
South of Joliet is the small village of Elwood. This is located north of the Joliet Arsenal. The original path followed Old Chicago Road south to Mississippi Avenue. Then is Route 66 followed Mississippi Avenue into Elwood. Just before the Union Pacific Railroad Route 66 turns south along Douglas Street. Route 66 then re-joins the four-lane highway.
