Springfield to Staunton
From Springfield to Staunton there are two main alignments. The first ran along the west side of the Illinois State Fair Grounds then near the Illinois State Capital building. Between Springfield and Chatham this alignment joins Illinois 4. The 1926-1930 alignment passes through Virden, Girard, and Carlinville. From 1930-1977, U.S. 66 runs straight south from Springfield to Staunton, via Litchfield. This alignment has several different alignments it's self. There are two at Springfield, Litchfield, Mt. Olive, and the Staunton-Livingston Area. South of Springfield, and near Divernon, it runs on Interstate 55.
