Bloomington-Normal
The second alignment of U.S. 66 in the Bloomington-Normal Metro is along the busiest surface highway in the city. It is signed as Business Loop I-55, but commonly known as Veterans Parkway. It runs along the east and south sides of the metro area. This along with Interstate 55/74 on the north and west side completes a loop around the city. The entire highway along the eastside of the city is three traffic lanes. This by-pass casued a shift in commerce when it was opened. Prior to the by-pass or as it was known at the time "Belt Line", most of the major shopping was in Downtown Bloomington. When completed shops shifted out of downtown and along Veterans Parkway. The busiest corner in the Bloomington-Normal Metro to date is the corner of Empire Street (Illinois 9) and Veterans Parkway (BUSN Loop I-55/U.S. 66)
